Mass Killings and Gun Control

The shootings that occurred at the Aurora, Colorado movie theater has once again sparked the debate about gun control. Many are wondering why it's possible for people to buy assault weapons and high capacity clips. I'm also wondering why only 60% of gun sales require a background check and seven day waiting period. Some pro gun people are saying that if other people had been armed, the attack may have lessened or even stopped entirely. There's just one problem with this scenario and it's that most people have little to no combat training. Shooting at static targets that don't shoot back hardly prepares someone for a firefight in a darkened theater with a gun wielding psychopath tossing gas canisters and shooting at anything that moves. Hunting skills are equally useless because game animals don't shoot back either. The only people equipped to deal with situations like this are those with extensive military and/or police training. The government is doing little to address the problem. They're so afraid of angering the gun lobby, especially during an election year, that they won't make any recommendations. The assault weapons ban that Pres. Clinton signed into law has been allowed to lapse. It is highly unlikely that anything like it will be made into law anytime soon. The only suggestion that has been made is that wearing costumes should be banned at theaters. That's these fucking idiots answer to the problem. How many mass killers were wearing costumes when they committed their crimes? None. I'm not worried about somebody dressing up like the Joker when they go to see a Batman movie. When I went to see Phantom Menace, there were people dressed as Sith and Jedi having mock lightsaber fights outside the theater. A bunch of cosplayers having fun is no threat to the general public. The government and the gun lobby need to come together and work things out. While I'm in favor of the Second Amendment, some form of regulation must be enforced. The general public should not have access to every type of firearm made. Some of them should only be in the hands of trained military or police personnel.
